Covid-19 cases, fatalities and TPR drop again in Mumbai

Mumbai saw a drop in new Covid-19 cases as 789 were reported on Thursday. The test positivity rate (TPR) also saw a drop and was 2.20%. After recording the lowest test positivity rate (TPR) on Tuesday and single digit fatalities, Mumbai saw a jump in TPR, fatalities as well as new cases on Wednesday.


June 6 was for the first time in the second wave that the TPR dipped below 3%. The city reported the highest number of cases—11,163—on April 4 and then the declining trend started. There has been a steady fall in the test positivity rate after May 5 when the TPR was recorded at 10.96%. The doubling rate on Thursday was 726 days. 



As per the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation report there were 10 deaths across the city. Of the 10 deaths, 5 patients had comorbidities, 6 deaths were in the age group over 60 while 3 deaths were reported in the 40-60 age group. On June 8, the city had reported single digit Covid-19 fatalities for the first time in the second wave.


The city’s recovery rate continues to be at 95 per cent and there were 542 people who recovered and were discharged on Thursday. 

The state’s new Covid-19 cases saw a marginal dip and registered below the 10,000 mark after crossing it on Wednesday. As per the state report, Maharashtra had  9,844 new cases. However the Covid-19 fatalities went up as 197 deaths were reported across the state.

The state’s case fatality rate, which has been seeing a steady rise, was recorded at 2 per cent on Thursday. At least 9,371 people recovered and got discharged on Thursday.   

The Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) saw a dip in new cases. The MMR reported 2,312 cases on Thursday, including the ones in Mumbai. Apart from Mumbai, Palghar with 159 and Raigad with 609 reported the maximum new cases in MMR. Thane reported 70 new cases while Kalyan-Dombivli saw 76 cases and Navi Mumbai reported 139 new cases each on Thursday. 

MMR, excluding Mumbai, registered 37 Covid-19 fatalities on Thursday. Raigad reported 31 deaths, highest in MMR. Vasai-Virar reported two deaths and Navi Mumbai and Palghar one each.
