Covid-19 cases drop further in Mumbai but fatalities remain same

Mumbai reported 5,008 new COVID-19 cases on Friday, 700 less than Thursday, and 12 fresh fatalities linked to the infection, the city civic body said. Though the cases in the city are on the  decline, the interior parts of the state registered high growth. There are 48,270 new cases and the death toll increased to 53 in the state.


The city’s TPR was at 10.01 percent. All the 12 fatalities in the city had comorbidities. While one was below 40 years of age, three of them were in the age of 40-60, the rest were above the age of 60.


Around 84 per cent of the positive patients on Friday were asymptomatic and 420 people were hospitalised of whom 88 are on oxygen beds. Mumbai’s recovery rate has increased to 97 per cent, while the case doubling rate has improved to 93 days, the BMC said. The active cases are 14,178. 


The state’s case-fatality rate continued to dip and was at 1.91 per cent. A total of 42,391 people were discharged on Friday. The state’s active cases were at 2,64,388 on Friday.

The Mumbai Metropolitan Region registered 10,493 infections, a marginal dip. The Thane Municipal Corporation and Navi Mumbai reported 920 and 1,238 cases respectively, highest in MMR after Mumbai. While Panvel saw 790 cases, Vasai-Virar had 219 cases and Thane had 377 cases. Other than Mumbai, the MMR saw 15 deaths, out of which 6 were reported in Raigad and Five in Thane corporation area.  

On Friday, 144 new Omicron infections were reported in the state. So far, 2343 cases of Omicron have been registered of which 1,171 patients have been discharged.
