Cong vs BJP, UBT vs Shinde: Who won it?

In a fierce electoral battle Congress dominates statewide, Shinde leads Shiv Sena to victory

Congress and BJP contested in 15 constituencies across the state. In this battle, Congress emerged victorious in 11 constituencies, while BJP secured 6. In the contest between Shiv Sena and Shiv Sena (UBT), Chief Minister Eknath Shinde’s faction took the lead, winning in seven of the 13 constituencies where they faced off.

Vidarbha region witnessed most of the fights between the two national parties. While Congress succeeded in winning in four constituencies - Amravati, Bhandara-Gondia, Chandrapur, and Gadchiroli - BJP won in Nagpur and Akola.

In Marathwada, the BJP lost all three constituencies to Congress. In 2019, BJP candidates won the Jalna, Latur, and Nanded constituencies, but in this election, Congress won in all these constituencies.

In western Maharashtra, Congress and BJP faced each other in two constituencies. Congress won in the Solapur constituency while BJP maintained the Pune constituency. In Mumbai, the score is 50-50; BJP maintains its North Mumbai constituency, while Congress won the North Central constituency. In the North Maharashtra region, Congress won Nandurbar and Dhule against the BJP.

Battle of Senas

In the contest between Shiv Sena and Shiv Sena (UBT), Shiv Sena won in seven constituencies, while UBT secured six.

In Mumbai, UBT won the South Mumbai and South Central Mumbai constituencies and Shinde won the North West constituency. In Marathwada, Shinde won Aurangabad and UBT won Hingoli. In Western Maharashtra, Shinde’s candidate won in the Maval and Hatkanangle constituencies, while UBT’s candidate won in the Shirdi constituency. In Vidarbha Shinde’s candidate won in Buldhana and Yavatmal-Washim constituencies, while UBT candidates won in other areas. In the Thane district, Eknath Shinde proved his dominance by winning both the Thane and Kalyan constituencies with a significant margin against UBT.

NCP-SP stands tall

Sharad Pawar’s NCP also defeated the BJP in large numbers. Both parties contested in seven constituencies, with Pawar’s candidates winning five and BJP securing two. Additionally, Sharad Pawar defeated the Ajit Pawar-led NCP in all three constituencies where they faced each other. In Western Maharashtra, Sharad Pawar’s candidates defeated the BJP in Madha and Ahmednagar, and Ajit Pawar’s candidates in Baramati and Shirur. In Marathwada, NCP-SP won in Beed against BJP. In north Maharashtra, NCP-SP defeated the BJP in Dindori. In Vidarbha, NCP-SP defeated Ajit Pawar’s candidate in Wardha. Sharad Pawar lost only two constituencies to BJP—Satara in western Maharashtra and Raver in north Maharashtra.
