Cases on the rise, but 90 per cent Covid-19 beds in Mumbai vacant: BMC data

Amid rising coronavirus cases in Mumbai, nearly 90 per cent of the beds reserved for Covid-19 patients are vacant in the city, Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) data shows.


The BMC data shows that till December 27, 13,789 of the 15,278 Covid-19 beds were vacant in Mumbai, the Indian Express reported. The BMC data further shows that out of 1,986 ICU beds, only 305 were full.

According to reports, only a few ventilator beds and beds with oxygen support were occupied. Out of 3671 beds in private hospitals, only 731 were occupied.

In one of the highest single-day rise recently, Mumbai on Tuesday reported 1,377 coronavirus cases, as per BMC. Maharashtra also reported 2,172 cases. 

There are currently a total of 167 Omicron cases in the state. With this, the total Covid-19 case count in the state has gone up to 66,61,486.
