In view of New Year parties, civic body has issued new guidelines

As the city gears up for New Year parties and celebrations amid the Omicron fear, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) issued new guidelines for the gatherings, on Tuesday. Apart from a 50 per cent capacity cap on closed spaces and 25 per cent on open ones, the civic chief has said that organisers must inform the civic body beforehand if the number of guests expected at a venue is more than 200 and take prior permission for it.

The state government had issued directions on November 27, allowing all economic, cultural, social, sports and entertainment activities as per normal timings, subject to certain conditions. “Mumbai continues to be threatened by the spread of Covid-19, especially the Omicron variant. It is imperative to continue following the rules to prevent and contain the spread of the virus,” said BMC Commissioner Iqbal Singh Chahal.

‘Follow appropriate behaviour’

As per the circular issued by the civic body, at gatherings and social events people should maintain 6/6 feet distance and follow Covid-appropriate behaviour. The circular further mentions that prior written permission should be taken from the assistant commissioner (ward officer) if more than 200 guests are expected at a venue. The ward officer would send representatives to supervise the event.
