Another person injured in the Worli cylinder blast died on Monday, pushing the toll to three. Vidya Puri, 25, succumbed after fighting for life for over a week. A five-year-old child, the lone survivor, is in stable condition and has been shifted to the general ward.

In the cylinder blast that occurred in a closed room in BDD Chawl in Worli on November 30, four people—a couple and their two sons—were injured. Four-month-old Mangesh Puri died the next day while Anand Puri, 27, his father was in a critical condition. He died on Saturday. Both were admitted to Nair hospital.

Vidya and Vishnu, 5, were shifted to Kasturba Hospital and were reportedly stable. But Vidya, who had suffered 50 to 60 per cent burn, died on Monday evening.  “Vishnu, the lone survivor, is in stable condition and has been shifted to the general ward,” said a doctor from Kasturba Hospital.

After a video of the injured being neglected by hospital staffers went viral, three employees of BYL Nair hospital—a doctor, an MBBS student and a nurse—were suspended. The civic body has appointed an external committee of four doctors to investigate the incident.
