A 24-year-old patient of GT Hospital at Dhobi Talao jumped to his death from the emergency exit on the second floor of the hospital. The incident took place at around 11.30 pm on Friday in the presence of doctors and ward boys.

The patient, Sagar Salvi, was a resident of Badlapur and was admitted to the hospital a day before his death for high fever. “He first jumped off the first floor window and injured his left arm.

We immediately took him to the ward and cleaned his wound and tried to pacify him. Doctors were also planning to sedate him but he calmed down and we let him be,” said Dr BR Kulkarni, superintendent of GT Hospital.

Later, Salvi ran inside a bathroom in the ward and broke a mirror. “He used shards of the mirror to inflict wounds on himself and then threatened others. He ran towards the emergency exit and jumped off,” added Kulkarni. The doctors are yet to detect the cause for the deceased patient’s suicidal tendencies.
