Woman catches husband sleeping with sister-in-law, commits suicide

A 34-year-old housewife killed herself in her Mira Road flat after she caught her husband of six years in a compromising position with his brother’s wife on Friday afternoon.

The Kashimira police arrested the woman’s husband and sister-in-law for driving the victim to taking the extreme step. The deceased has been identified as Shobha Sukla, a resident of Kashimira area in Mira road. Her husband, Ashish Sukla, works in a construction firm. They were married in 2008 and have two children.


Police officials said Shobha found her husband getting intimate with her sister-in-law Suhasini after which a fierce argument broke out between the two. Unable to come to terms with the situation, Shobha decided to take her life.

Senior police inspector Anil Kadam, said, “Shobha was found hanging from a ceiling fan on Friday and we had initially registered a case of accidental death. Investigations, however, revealed that the deceased’s husband was having an affair with her sister-in-law.”

The cops then arrested the husband and sister-in- law for driving the woman to suicide. They have been charged under sections 498A (Husband or relative of husband of a woman subjecting her to cruelty), 306 (Abetment of suicide) and 34 (Acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention) of the IPC.
