mid-day had reported on Saturday that the lakes had enough water to supply the city for only another 23 days. That figure now stands at 25. While Vihar and Tulsi, which are within the Greater Mumbai area, have been receiving good rainfall, the other lakes have begun to see proper rainfall only since Friday.

The BMC, however, is in no mood to lift the 20% water cut just yet. “The amount of rainfall we have seen is good, but not great, as the water available in the catchment areas will last only for 25 days.

The lakes need more rain. This month will be crucial for the city’s water supply and the amount of rain in the catchment areas will be the basis for us to take a call on lifting the water cut later,” said a senior BMC official.
