Last Thursday, Versova police received a call from the deceased’s brother-in-law, Subhash Jaiswal, informing them that she had been found dead in her apartment. Based on primary investigation, police had registered a case of accidental death. However, her medical report revealed that she had died due to strangulation.
Jaiswal had been staying alone in her apartment at Beach Classic building since her husband passed away seven years back. While she did not have any children, she was in touch with her brother-in-law, a retired high court judge who stays in the same locality.
Police then started their investigation by rounding up everyone who visited the building on the day of the murder. During interrogation, the sweeper of the building revealed that on Thursday morning, he heard some noise from inside her flat.
After checking the CCTV footage of the society, the police found that the servant, Sahib, was spotted entering the building twice. They took him under custody, and later he confessed to the crime. Cops arrested his accomplices as well.
In their confession, they revealed that they had been planning to rob the woman for the past two months. On Thursday, they went inside her flat, but since Jaiswal recognised all three, they decided to strangulate her. While they had planned to break her locker, they decamped with only her gold chain. After the incident, the three continued working in the building so that the police would not suspect them.
