Some residents are ready to move out of their sea-facing homes, while others have stocked groceries and shifted important documents to safer places.

'I saw it come'

"I watched the tide from my balcony yesterday as waves spewed waste into the compound and the horrifying memories of 26/7 resurfaced.

I also saw a refrigerator floating on the road," said TV actress Shweta Keswani, a resident of Sun and Sea apartments, Versova.

Keswani's bags are packed and she hasu00a0 made arrangements to shift to her friend's house. "I have stocked my kitchen with groceries," she added.

Groceries stored

Pooja Kapila, Keswani's neighbour, has also stocked her kitchen. "The sea looks scary during the monsoon and with an expected high tide, it gets scarier."

There are some buildings in the area that are nearly 40 years old and have not been redeveloped due to strict regulations.

"The government must introduce rational policies for old buildings on the sea front, which need urgent repair," said Pradeep Shetty from Sun and Sea apartments.

Kishore Wellankar, a resident of Beach apartments, plans to transfer all his important papers to a friend's house in Kandivli.

"If the need arises, we will also move out for a couple of days," said Wellankar. Simi Sharma fromu00a0 Sea Pearl building, plans to shift to her mother's house in Chembur in case of a high tide.

If Mumbai witnesses 200mm rainfall in 24 hours, floods can occur irrespective of the tides. Moderate rainfall and 4.50m-high tides can also cause the city to flood
