With the Uran fear fresh in their minds, locals of Malwan panicked upon spotting a foreigner loitering at the Tarkali beach on Saturday. The man, in his 30s, was carrying a huge backpack hidden in a jacket. He fled upon being cornered by locals. This raised their suspicion, as tourists do not frequent the beach. The fishermen immediately reported the man to the Malwan police, who then searched almost 300 hotels and resorts in that area.

Later in the evening, the cops took the foreigner into custody and interrogated him near the beach, where he was seen loitering again.

“The man is a tourist from Israel and was just exploring the area. He arrived here four days ago from Goa and is living in a hotel near the beach. His passport is valid up till October 14 and nothing suspicious was found after checking his visa and belongings,” said inspector Arvin Bodake of Malwan police station, adding that since it was raining heavily, he had covered his backpack with his jacket.
