Shiv Sena (SS), under the aegis of Executive President Uddhav Thackeray, held its first political gathering in Mankhurd yesterday evening. And what better way to start off the election campaign than take potshots at his estranged cousin and MNS Chief Raj Thackeray.
Reacting to the Shivaji Park controversy that is dogging Raj, who recently reacted angrily to the High Court verdict denying permission for his party to hold an election rally, Uddhav said, "We will see where the rallies will take place, on the roads or on the ground. Our rally starts where we stand, not at any venue or anything."
Thackeray had earlier started the rally by hinting at the internal cold war brewing in the Congress-NCP combine. "It's confusing Mumbaikars. Are they together or not? While they are fighting internally, we are the first ones to come out and address the people," said Thackeray.
"They want to make the BMC corruption-free by keeping any eye on its money. What about the Adarsh society? No one, it seems, knows who constructed the building and for whom. The other day they were welcoming corruption tarnished Kalmadi with songs. How can they be representatives of the people?" said Thackeray.
"I challenge Prithviraj Chavan, who holds the CM's post, to stand opposite me and show what he has done in the past one year and I'll show what I've done without holding a post," said Thackeray.
