Two killed, several hurt in mishap on Mumbai-Goa road

A luxury bus carrying pilgrims rammed into a stationary bus in Pen Taluka of Raigad district, killing two women on the spot and injuring 14 others seriously on Mumbai-Goa road in the wee hours today.

A luxury bus carrying pilgrims rammed into a stationary bus in Pen Taluka of Raigad district, killing two women on the spot and injuring 14 others seriously on Mumbai-Goa road in the wee hours today.


The bus, coming from Zaitupur in Ratnagiri District to Sanpada in Navi Mumbai, dashed against the truck at Ispat gate on Mumbai-Goa road, about five kms from Wadkhal at 0445 hours, police said.


The victims hail from Kamathe village in Panvel and Kausa and Mumbra towns in Thane district, police said. The seriously injured, including nine women, were rushed to Sion Hospital in central Mumbai.


The deceased were identified as Sakura Javed Barmare and Zaheeda Mauladdn Malim. Both aged 40.

Among the injured are Injas Pathan, Ruksana, Yasin Karkari, Gafar Walikar, Shabana Kazi, Sanawaju, Ayashabi Shaikh, Kamruddin, Mausin Malin, Abdul Mahavari, Hamid Ansari and A H Kazi, police said.
