The initiative has been undertaken to commemorate his birth centenary on September 8.
“Professor Kamath had a profound influence on his students at the University Department of Chemical Technology (UDCT) in Mumbai University and later at the IIT-Bombay, where he served as the HoD of the Chemical Engineering Department and deputy director of the institute since its inception in 1958. He’ll always remain one of the most loved professors,” said Dipak Himatsingka, an alumnus.
He added that the idea behind the initiative is to encourage professors from across the globe to come and teach at IIT-B, at least for one academic semester.
“We have estimated the corpus needs to be of Rs 6 crore to ensure that expenses incurred for this chair professorship will be met out of the interest derived from it. We have already collected Rs 1.5 crore and are waiting for prodigies of Professor Kamath to come forward and pitch in,” Himatsingka said.
