Tight security for flag hoisting ceremonies around Mumbai on R-Day today

The Mumbai police have strengthened security and put in nakabandis at various points for today; 1,500 jawans from reserve police force and QRT to also be deployed at Shivaji Park for the state’s official flag hoisting ceremony

Police will provide tight security today as flag hoisting ceremonies are organised throughout the city. The official flag hoisting ceremony will, this time, be held at Shivaji Park instead of Marine Lines.

While the city police will be on duty, 1,500 jawans, including those from the State Reserve Police Force (SRPF) and Quick Response Team (QRT), will be deployed for security purposes at Shivaji Park on the occasion of the 66th Republic Day.

Deputy Commissioner of Police Dhananjay Kulkarni, the PRO for Mumbai Police, said, “Apart from 1,500 jawans posted at Shivaji Park for the grand flag hoisting ceremony, all of Mumbai Police will be on duty. There will be nakabandi at various required spots. Police will be present at all crowded places and large-scale Republic Day functions.”

Parshuram Kakkad, senior police inspector of Shivaji Park police station, said, “Six assistant commissioner of police, one deputy commissioner of police and 800 policemen will be present at the venue (of the state’s official ceremony) and nearby areas. Along with this, the Force One squad and combat vehicles will also keep watch over proceedings.”

Joint Commissioner of Police (Law & Order) Dhananjay Kamalakar, speaking on other security measures, added, “To strengthen the coastal security, the port zone of Mumbai Police will be put on duty. The
Coast Guard and the Indian Navy have been asked to step up security on the seas. We will be carrying out random checks to keep an eye on suspicious people and objects.

Dog squads and quick response team policemen will look out for suspicious objects.”
