History-sheeters Satish and Suresh Kunchikurve sneaked out of the lock-up by breaking the toilet window grills; cops nabbed one of them in a matter of hours
In yet another incident that is sure to leave the men in khaki red-faced, two history-sheeters escaped from Dharavi police station yesterday morning by breaking the grills of the bathroom window. The escapees were identified as Satish Kunchikurve (25) and Suresh Kunchikurve (27). But Satish’s freedom lasted only a few hours, as he was nabbed from Shahunagar in Dharavi in the evening.

Both brothers are residents of Dharavi transit camp. The incident occurred despite police commissioner Dr Satyapal Singh issuing a circular, asking all the police stations to fortify grills installed in bathrooms. But it appears his words have fallen of deaf ears.
“Both fled the police station after breaking the window grills of the bathroom. We have formed three teams to find them,” said Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone V) Dhananjay Kulkarni. The brothers have several cases of house-breakings, chain-snatchings and robberies registered against them.
The Dharavi police had taken their custody from the Bandra court to interrogate them for a crime committed on January 18. They were supposed to be produced in the court today. “They were arrested around a month ago by the Khar police, and since then they have been doing rounds of various police stations as they’ve several cases registered against them,” said an official from Dharavi police station. ACP Prakash Landge is inquiring into the alleged negligence on the part of the police.
