A new judge appointed at redressal forum after three months means the 6,000 pending cases will be solved much faster

P Sahu has been waiting for six years to settle a property dispute in the Maharashtra State Consumer Redressal Forum.

And while the case was heard two to threeu00a0 times, even that stopped three months ago.

That's because there has been only one judge presiding over matters at the Forum, after the other judge, Justice S Vaghyani, retired.

But with the appointment of retired high court judge S Mhase on October 28, Sahu can expect speedier justice.
The functioning of only one court meant the number of pending cases had piled up to 6,000.

"Since there was no second court to deliver judgment, the pressure had increased on the one court," said P N Kashalkar, current president of the Forum.

Consumer advocates too are happy about this development. "I have a case pending in the state forum for 10 years. For the past three months, it was being postponed because there was no judge.

This move will definitely be good news for consumers," said Advocate J M Bafna. And Sahu, who had come to the Forum yesterday to get a date for the next hearing, is obviously delighted.

"I hope my case gets solved now. There are many like me who have been waiting to get justice."
