Thane: With the arrest of three youths, Thane City police on Tuesday claimed to have busted a gang involved in the theft of two-wheeler vehicles and recovered ten motorbikes from their possession. Talking to newsmen at Chitalsar police station in Thane, Assistant Commissioner of Police (Vartak Nagar division) Dilip Gore said that 10 motorbikes, valued at Rs 4.39 lakhs have been recovered from the arrested trio.

The arrested accuseds have been identified as Sagar Hari Gaikwad (20), Prashant alias Prem Ratan Divekar (28) and Omkar Chandrakant Thackeray (21). While Prashant was a driver, Omkar was into tying scaffoldings to buildings, and Sagar was working as an operator in a place where pancard and Aadhar cards are issued.

The trio targeted two wheelers parked in isolated places and picked them up using duplicate keys. It was on October 22, that police received a complaint about the theft of a two wheeler from Vasant Vihar locality and an offence was registered. Subsequently, a police petrol party spotted a two wheeler without a number plate which was being driven in the same locality. When police apprehended the riders and interrogated them, the thefts came to light. Their arrest later led the police to other thefts.

The trio after stealing the two wheelers sold them at half the price but didn't give them the vehicle papers. Police caught them after they sold three of the bikes and were preparing to sell two more. Police Inspector GD Pingle said that the trio had stolen bikes from limits of Chitalsar, Rabodi, Kapurbawdi, Kasarwadaavli, Wagle estate and Bhiwandi police stations here.
