Mindless acts performed under the garb of ‘black magic’ have claimed a 21-year-old man’s life. A tantrik and his son were arrested on Tuesday for brutally thrashing the mentally unstable man to death under the pretext of treating him. The Hill Line police have also arrested a eunuch for referring the deceased to the tantrik.
Santosh Suryavanshi (21), a resident of Ulhasnagar Camp no 5, had lost his mental balance since the last few weeks. Santosh, police said, was staying with Asha Suryavanshi, a eunuch, who had looked after him since childhood. “Asha had found Santosh on a footpath near Bhandup when he was just 2 years old. She took care of Santosh and eventually got him married to a girl in his neighbourhood,” said a Hill Line police officer.
Friend refers to tantrik
According to the police, all was well in the family till Santosh lost his mental balance few weeks ago. He had become a nuisance in the area as he hit and chased people. While Asha was about to visit a psychiatrist to seek help, another eunuch who was her friend, Sharifa Guru (30) referred her to tantrik Manoj Kalos (40).

On Monday at around 10 pm, Asha and Sharifa took Santosh to Kalos. After examining him, Kalos took Santosh to a room and tied him to a bamboo. He then began hitting Santosh repeatedly with belts and brooms.
Wounds all over
“All this while, Asha and Sharifa who were waiting outside could hear Santosh screaming in pain. After Kalos got tired of hitting Santosh, he called his son, Sunil (22), to continue with the assault. The two stopped only after Santosh lost consciousness.
At 2 am, Kalos asked Asha to take him away. Sharifa, however advised Asha to leave him with Kalos for the night and take him later in the day, because if he woke up, he might create a scene at home,” the officer added.
On Tuesday morning at around 8 am, when Asha and Sharifa visited Kalos, they found Santosh still tied to the bamboo with wounds all over his back. Despite repeated attempts, Santosh did not move.
