The 14-year-old victim, a resident of a township in Ulhasnagar went missing on May 9, following which her mother filed a missing report with the police. Inspector Madan Ballal, Child Protection Unit of Thane police said the girl managed to flee from clutches of the accused in Gujarat and reached Dadar in Mumbai on June 16 and was reunited with family on Wednesday.

Ballal said during the probe, police zeroed on a woman, named Pooja Shaddar alias Ruma (29). Through Ruma, one woman fish-seller, Shobha Jadhav (45), was nabbed who told the police that she took the victim to Bhavnagar and sold her to one Bharatbhai Govind Makhwana (60). She also informed that Makhwana married the girl off to an autorickshaw driver Raju Waza (32). The team reached Bhavnagar on Wednesday and arrested Waza, and Makhwana from a lodge, the officer said.

According to Waza, he had paid Rs 65,000 to Shobha and Rs 11,000 to Makhwana. The girl told police that she escaped from clutches of Waza with help of a woman who gave her Rs 500 to reach Mumbai. The case is being now probed by Vitthalwadi police station which is carrying out further investigation.
