A 26-year-old man from Ulhasnagar is on the run after murdering his wife, a bar girl, whom he had married a year ago. The incident came to light after the man, identified as Rajesh Khan, called up his friend, and told him about the murder.

The friend then informed the police and a manhunt has been launched to catch the killer. The police said the murder took place in the wee hours of Saturday at Khan’s residence in Asher Gaon, Ulhasnagar. The deceased, Jamila Khan alias Khatoon, and Khan were having an argument, when the latter, in a moment of rage, choked Khatoon to death.

"After the crime, Khan locked the door of the house and left the building. He then called one of his friends, Shafiq, and told him that he had killed Khatoon and disconnected the phone," said an official investigating the case. Shafiq immediately informed the cops, who rushed to the scene of the crime. The woman’s body was found on the bed.

"We questioned a few neighbours who told us that the two had been married for a year. They did not know what Khan did for a living, but told us that Khatoon was a bar girl," said the official.
