Thane crime: Four held for running prostitution ring, 12 women rescued

Police have raided a brothel in Hanuman Tekdi area in the powerloom town of Bhiwandi in the district and arrested four persons, including two women, on the charge of running a flesh trade racket, police said today

Thane: Police have raided a brothel in Hanuman Tekdi area in the powerloom town of Bhiwandi in the district and arrested four persons, including two women, on the charge of running a flesh trade racket, police said today.


Police also rescued 12 women during the swoop on Tuesday night. "We have rescued twelve women from the brothel located in Navi Basti area and apprehended four persons including two women who hail from Nepal," said ACP (Crime) Bharat Shelke.


The arrested women, identified as Sushila Jaibhadur Gurung (29) and Rekha Sayla Tamang (49), are instrumental in
pushing the women into prostitution, he said, adding rest of the arrested persons are Bhagwan Farde (32) and Mohammad Sayeed Abdul Gaffar Shah (40) who were customers. They have been charged under sections 370 (buying or disposing of any person as a slave) of IPC and under sections 3, 4 and 5 of Prevention of Immoral Trafficking Act (PITA)
