The Thane Municipal Corporation appears to be on a major clean-up drive. Scheduled over four days, the massive drive by commissioner Sanjeev Jaiswal kicked off on Shil-Phata Road near Mumbra with the demolition of 20 hukkah parlours, three ladies bars and 10 lodges.
The Monday drive started from Shil, covering Daighar and Kalyan-Phata area, as action was initiated against illegal structures that were reportedly bribing authorities to continue operations.
Several hukkah bars including Bhaijaan, Mejban, Shezwaan, Moghal Dhaba, Food Talk, Nawaza, Nigh Life, Moti Mahal, Dosti Whatsaap and Light Night, among others, were demolished.
Sandeep Malvi, Public Relation Officer, Thane Municipal Corporation said, "The drive has been going on for the last one week against illegal ladies bars and lodges. Today, we also found some hukkah parlours and took action against them. Almost 20 such parlours were demolished on Monday."
Meanwhile, Jaiswal, TMC chief, said, "We had covered Thane and on Monday, started the drive across Mumbra and the surrounding areas. More than a thousand structures, including small cigarette shops to garages were demolished."
