NRI woman commits suicide in Thane

Just a day after she received the news of her mother's death, a 37-year-old NRI woman, Hetal Parmar, committed suicide by jumping off the 27th floor of Rustomjee Athena building in Thane, where her in-laws reside. The incident took place around 7.45am, after which the security guard immediately informed the police. Within minutes the Kapurbawadi police reached the spot and rushed her to the Thane civil hospital, where she was declared brought dead. The body has been sent for post-mortem.

Police sources said that Hetal stays in Canada, while her mother resides in Pune. After getting the news of her mother's death, she came to India on Saturday and put up at her in-laws' place in Thane. However, she was supposed to go to her mother's house on Sunday, but committed suicide in the morning.

Speaking to mid-day, Bansi Baravkar, senior police inspector of Kapurbawadi police station, said, "We have registered an accidental death report in the matter. Reason behind the suicide is still not clear. No suicide note has been recovered from the spot."
