Security agencies have seized a stock of ammonium nitrate and detonators from the premises of a private developer at Davle village in Mumbra in the wee hours of Sunday, said a senior police official.
Three persons have been arrested in this regard, said police.
The operation was carried out jointly by the Thane city police, Anti Terrorist Squad (ATS) and the Railway Protection Force (RPF).
Addressing reporters here today additional commissioner of police Satyanarayan Choudhary said: "We had received information that some people had brought the consignment and it was concealed in the premises of MD Developers opposite Gausia compound at Davle village of Mumbra."
He added, "The police conducted a raid at around 4.30 am at the premises and found the stock concealed in a parked car."
The official said, "10 kgs of ammonium nitrate, nine supreme detonators and six feet long wires attached to it were found abandoned in the car. Police have arrested three persons from the locality after the further probe."
Police suspect that the explosive material might have been brought to carry out some untoward activity.
A case has been registered at Shil-Daighar police station.
The police have given the names of the arrested as Mahinsa Rajebar Ganur alias Mahesh (40), Shah Alam Mahemud Shaikh (32) and Arif Navabali Khan (23) all residents of Mumbra, the police said.
All those arrested have cases filed against them at Mumbra police station in 2016, said police.
On an earlier occasion, also similar stock was found but it later turned out that it was to be used for blasting in quarries.
