Thane: Class VII girl cooks abduction story to avoid being grilled from teacher

The Navghar police officials, who had launched a manhunt for three men for allegedly abducting a 13-year-old girl in broad daylight on Monday afternoon, were left shocked after they found that the girl actually concocted her kidnapping story.

Her lies was caught after police scanned footage of a CCTV camera in the area that had captured the girl’s movements, but were not matching with her claims. She later admitted before the police that she cooked up the story, fearing her tuition teacher would shout at her as she got late.

On Monday evening, a Nanepada-based fisherman from Mulund east informed police that while, he along with his wife was searching for his 13-year-old missing daughter, he found her in an old building in the area with her limbs tied.

When police arrived at the spot, the girl, in her statement to police, stated that, on Sunday, she had attended a family function and had forgotten to take off the gold chain she was wearing. On Monday afternoon, when she went to tuition, her teacher asked her to go back home (5-minutes away) and take off the gold chain citing security reasons.

The girl, who did not want to go back, had an argument with the mother over the same issue (wearing gold chain sometimes) following which her mother shouted at her. She kept the chain at home and stepped out. She told police that, while returning, three boys forced her to sniff something after which she passed out. When she gained consciousness, she found herself on the terrace of Sandeep building with her limbs tied up.

Police immediately lodged a kidnapping case and launched a manhunt for the trio. When police obtained the CCTV footage around the Sandeep building, they raised suspicion on the girl’s story as, in the CCTV footage, the girl was herself seen entering the building from behind.

When police tactfully questioned the girl, she broke down and admitted that she cooked up the story, as she feared that her teacher would shout on her as she got late while returning to tuition, the police said.

“While narrating how the idea of the kidnapping story popped up in her mind, she told investigators that, after she stepped out of home in anger, three boys passed by her. In anger, she entered Sandeep building, where very few tenants reside. She went to terrace and as she got late. She decided to coin kidnapping story to save her from teacher’s wrath,” said senior inspector Madhav More of the Navghar police station.

More added that she tied her hands and legs with a piece of cloth and then, after crying a lot, she went to sleep. When she woke up after three hours, she tried to untie her limbs but failed to do so. She tried to crawl down the building, but a stray dog in the building started barking at her. In fear, she shouted for help from the building’s window, when her father spotted her on the third floor and police were informed. Police have recorded the statement of the father, who has not complained of any foul-play. The police would not close the kidnapping case.
