Senior police inspector Sunil Shewarkar from Dombivli police station, said, “At around 9 am, Anand Devkar arrived at the police station and confessed. The accused claimed that they were not in the right frame of mind since they had consumed alcohol.” According to the police, the crime took place at 2 am on Saturday.
The five were on their way back home and stopped Ganesh Jaiswal's auto. Jaiswal however, refused to give them a ride and an altercation ensued. In a fit of rage, they stabbed him 43 times before throwing his body into an open ground on DNC road in Dombivli. “Usually, at night, rickshaw drivers refuse to take drunk passengers since they don’t pay up.
However, Jaiswal told them that his shift was over and he was on his way home. After being refused, Vinod Vakde lost his cool and stabbed him. The rest then joined in. We have found a total of 43 wounds on Jaiswal's body,” added Shewarkar.
Vakde along with four others Prashant Thale, Anand Devkar, Shrinivas Sugare and Rakesh Ingale has been booked under section 302 (murder) and will be produced in court today.
