February experienced lower temperatures because of cool northeasterly winds, say officials. In 2005, February temperatures dipped to 11.9 degree Celsius, while in 2008, it was recorded at 8.5 degree Celsius. This year, the minimum temperature recorded in February was 14.9 degree Celsius.
"The northereasterly winds left the weather dry and cool, but the pattern is expected to change by the beginning of March. Mumbai hasn't received sea breeze, which tends to bring with it moisture, and raise temperatures," said an official from the MET department.
