Stray dogs poisoned in Mumbai institute: Animal activist alleges

Four stray dogs were found dead under mysterious circumstances inside the Central Institute of Fisheries Education, raising serious concerns about the safety of animals in the campus. An animal rights activist has filed a complaint at Versova police station alleging that the dogs have been poisoned.

The incident came to light when a senior citizen Farida, who lives near the institute and delivers food to doctors, received a call about the death of four dogs on Thursday. She immediately reached the spot to verify and then called the activist, Zara Ruhani, and the police.

“It is shocking and unacceptable how four dogs can die at the same time. I suspect that someone had poisoned them,” said Ruhani. “I informed the police and asked them to file an Accidental Death Report (ADR) against unidentified persons, but they asked me for an application to conduct the investigation,” Ruhani added.

An investigative officer from Versova police station said, “After receiving the application, we sent the bodies to the veterinary hospital in Parel to examine the exact cause of their death. We will file an FIR after we get the medical report.” Speaking to mid-day, R Mulani, police sub-inspector at Versova police station, said, “In these kind of cases, we have to wait for the medical confirmation before we file an FIR.”
