Sheetal Walmiki (30) and Mahendra Soni (40), residents of Thane, carried out the sting operation. Walmiki had gone to the Mumbra police station on Thursday to help a friend. "When I visited the police station, I found that my friend's wife had alleged that he was in an extramarital relationship and wanted to register a case against him. The police first counselled them and later started verbally abusing me," Walmiki said.
"They made us wait for more than six hours. Further, they did not register a case and demanded a bribe of Rs 5,000 to settle the issue. After we begged, they settled it for Rs 2,000. To teach them a lesson, we carried out a sting operation, where he (the ASI) is clearly seen accepting the bribe. My aunt gave him the cash and Soni carried out the sting operation. Hope the senior authorities take strict action," added Walmiki.
Soni, who recorded the operation, said, "We also saw R2,000 being distributed among the two; the ASI pocketed half of it and the remaining was taken by constable Abdul Tadvi." He has also written a letter to the police commissioner and has provided the video clip as well.

Speaking to mid-day, Enaray rubbished the allegation and the video clip. He said, "They approached us with the complaint after which we first tried to counsel them. Later, the senior officers asked us to register a case against the defaulter concerned and we asked them for the mandatory medical exam report. But, when our senior asked them to leave after counselling, we left them. The allegation and the video are fake."
