This incident comes on the heels of State Public Works Department (PWD) minister Eknath Shinde receiving a death threat last month. Shinde was in his official bungalow in Nagpur during the winter session of the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly when he had received the call.
When contacted, Mungantiwar didn’t part with any further detail about the death threat though sources close to him said that his adversaries were attempting to intimidate him by giving him threat calls. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader, however, chose not to talk about the threat calls but confirmed receiving the letter.
“It said, ‘Hum tumhara game baja denge’ (we will kill you). We will end your political career,” he told sunday mid-day from Nagpur on Saturday. He said the police were probing the threats. The state cabinet approved the prohibition of alcohol in Chandrapur on January 20. The licensed shops and bars in the district will be moved out to the neighbouring districts of Wardha and Gadchiroli by March 31 this year.
The finance minister said the threats did not bother him, especially when majority of people were in support of the prohibition in Chandrapur.
