Stalker alert
Speaking to mid-day, the 29-year-old woman, who is a housewife, said that Shaikh had been following her from September 8 onwards. The woman would go to pick up her son in the afternoon from a bus stop - located at a five-minute distance from her home - near the Reserve Bank of India at Horniman Circle.

Shaikh would follow her from the bus stop till her residence on his bike. The woman would walk back home with her son and Shaikh would continue following them till they reached home. The woman told her husband and in-laws about him and the family then decided to lay a trap and catch Shaikh red-handed.

The plan
On September 16, according to the plan, the woman went to the bus stop to bring her son home. As per his routine, Shaikh saw her and started following her. However, this time round, the woman’s husband was also following Shaikh and recording a video of Shaikh stalking his wife. (see pics)

Upon reaching near the woman’s building, Shaikh was about to approach her and talk to her when the woman’s mother-in-law caught his collar and alerted the crowd nearby. They caught hold of Shaikh and beat him up. The family also informed the police and soon, Shaikh was arrested.

The woman said, “I had to tell my family about him and catch hold of him. He would follow me every day and after reaching my building, he would pass by me. I was scared and I thought he was a chain-snatcher.

Because of this, I had also removed all my gold jewellery for a few days. He could have done anything and gotten away with it. I was scared because I would also have my one-year-old daughter with me sometimes.”

The MRA Marg police station have arrested Shaikh and registered a case against him under Sections 354 of the Indian Penal Code (Assault or criminal force towards a woman with intent to outrage her modesty) and 354 (D) (Stalking). He was presented at the Esplanade holiday court and has been remanded in judicial custody.
