The organisers, who are also office bearers of Shiv Sena, claim they are holding the screenings only for the public's entertainment,
Samadhan Sarvankar, son of local Dadar MLA, Sada Sarvankar, and also the office bearer of Yuva Sena, posted the invite on his Facebook page asking people to gather at Shivaji Park in huge numbers by 7 pm so that they can watch the match.
His post read, “Guys r u ready for india pak bashhhhh traditional warrrrrr ? Keep urself free on Saturday for fire ....... First time live match telecast on big screen at SHIVAJIPARK“.... (sic)
When contacted, Sarvankar said, “It’s purely entertainment and has got nothing to do with the party’s stand. We oppose the war as well, but when a war takes place soldier do stand to fight right. The screening has got nothing to do with the party’s stand. It is organised by the Shivaji Park Gymkhana of which I am the vice president and Mi Dadarkar NGO for resident’s entertainment.”
Other Sena office bearers also posted messages claiming that they were all very excited to watch the match. Amit Bhadrica, who happens to be a member of the social media unit of Shiv Sena and Yuva Sena posted on Twitter that he was excited to watch the India vs Pakistan match.
