Docs say unexpected Nov rains likely to result in patients lining up with health problems

The November rains may have made for a pleasant climate, but it has also invited a host of health problems.

Doctors believe patients will line up with gastroenteritis.

"I have seen five patients over the last week and two have been admitted.

The disease is borne through polluted water, which will be a concern because of the rains," said Dr Khusrav Bajan, head of general medicine at Hinduja Hospital.

"We're already witnessing a 15-20 per cent rise in patients in a day. I expect the numbers to increase hundred-fold," said Mahashur.

Epidemiologist Dr S M Sapatnekar said, "I'd be more concerned about the number of aedes mosquitoes that could give dengue.

Also, the number of malaria patients is bound to rise with the number of stagnant water breeding grounds that will crop up after the showers."
