Sadhvi Pragya Singh Thakur, an accused in the Malegaon blast case, moved an application before the special MCOCA court seeking permission to file a private complaint against a fellow inmate for allegedly assaulting her at the Byculla women jail.

According to Sadhvi's advocate Ganesh Sovani, Mumtaz Shaikh, a detainee lodged in Barrack No 4 of the Byculla jail has been harassing Sadhvi since evening of April 15, When Sadhvi was shifted to the Byculla jail from JJ hospital, where she was being treated for skin ailment.

Mumtaz, according to Sovani, continued to taunt and provoke Sadhvi for another two days, but Sadhvi did not react and brought the matter to the notice of the jail superintendent in writing. But no action was taken.

On Sunday, jail officials moved Sadhvi out of Barrack No 4 and accommodated her in the common hall.

However, Sovani added, the situation worsened on Monday morning. When Sadhvi was going for her breakfast, Mumtaz once again started abusive her and then assaulted the Sadhvi with an aluminum bowl.

Sadhvi sustained injury to her left eye, right collarbone and nose. Jail officials had to over power Mumtaz. Sadhvi was treated for her wounds by Dr Khan.

Sadhvi narrated the incident to her lawyer, when he visited her on Monday evening who moved an application before the court on Tuesday to register private complaint against Mumtaz at Mazagaon court.

The Special MCOCA court allowed Sadhvi's lawyer to file a private complaint, which will be done on Wednesday.
