The BJP, meanwhile, has avowed to oppose the move.

The BMC on Tuesday brought about a provision in its DCR stating that rooftop restaurants will be allowed in Mumbai. The provision came with a rider that cooking will not be allowed on terraces. Besides, restaurants will have to fulfill a slew of requirements for getting the necessary permissions.
The proposal was shot down by none other than the BJP last year in the BMC, who had termed it "immoral". And the party is sticking to its stand.
In response, Thackeray, the pioneer of the idea, issued a statement on Twitter.
Thackeray posted, "Most welcome step if all safeguards such as garbage segregation, fire safety audits, legal structures, structural audits (are taken) and no residents to be troubled in immediate 300 m of the proposed rooftop. However, going by the trend I hope the government doesn't mandate that rooftops be only allowed during the day, as apparently even affordable eateries at night are a sin and immoral."

Thackeray took a potshot at the BJP stating it calls even affordable eateries immoral if they operate at night.
The statement goes on to say how the DP is still under revision and how this is still a proposal that needs to be discussed in the general assembly.
