R V Sharma, deputy director regional meteorological center said, "Though we cannot predict the exact date on which the monsoon will touch Mumbai as the conditions are still not favo-urable, there is a possibility of light rains and thunder showers within the next 48 hours."

The Met office had earlier predicted that the rains would hit Mumbai by June 7 or 8. Now the monsoon is expected to hit the city between June 10 and 15,said Sharma. IMD officials said that Mumbai and its suburbs are expected to witness partly cloudy skies with the possibility of light showers.
u00a0The southwest monsoon set in at Andaman Nicobar islands on May 20 and Kerala on May 23 almost a week before time. But it slowed down later. "The cyclone Aila has affected the progress of monsoon a bit. The maximum teperature is likely to be between 34-29 degree celcius," said Sharma.
