The Dadar Crime Branch arrested 50-year-old Hansraj Ramniranjan Yadav, who used his paan shop in Bhandup as a front to sell illegal railway tickets
As the season to buy railway tickets for summer holidays begins, the police are on the lookout for illegal agents in the city. On cue is the Dadar Crime Branch, which arrested a 50-year-old man yesterday from Bhandup, for selling railway tickets from his paan shop.

Last Thursday, the Crime Branch got a tip-off about Hansraj Ramniranjan Yadav’s activities and they started to follow his activities. “We tracked Yadav for a few days and found out that he used the paan shop as a front to fool authorities. He had been selling tickets illegally for years,” said a senior officer from the team.
On February 26, the team received information that a courier with tickets was arriving from Kerala the next day. They decided to keep a watch on the shop at night and in the morning, the team raided the place. When Yadav realised that they were from the Crime Branch, he tried to flee with the bag containing the tickets. However, he was nabbed within 50 metres of the shop.
“The tickets were for April; interestingly most of them were for Varanasi and Allahabad, starting from Lokmanya Tilak Terminus. Yadav would take the details from customers and after they paid the money, he would hand over the confirmed tickets,” said an official from the team.
34 confirmed AC and sleeper tickets, worth Rs 74,000, were confiscated. According to the team, while Yadav insisted that he takes Rs 200 per ticket, they came to know that his charges start from Rs 1,000.

Confirming the arrest, Rajesh Kamble, senior inspector of Crime Branch, Dadar, said, “He has been arrested under Section 143 of the Railway Act and will be produced in court on Friday. The investigation regarding his accomplices in Kerala is ongoing.”
