I was in Nashik when the news came in and I immediately called the Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime) and asked him to form as many teams as required to trace and nab the killers. It will be a high level probe involving senior officials. Police have begun investigations and I am confident that whoever is behind this act will soon be arrested.
Has the state government and police failed to protect people?
Police is making every effort to protect the life and property of common people. Sometimes you cannot predict what will happen, unless you share information with the police on the threats or warnings you may be get from criminals.
There is still no word from the government on enacting a law against attacks on journalists.
The proposal is currently with the government and the state cabinet will take a final call on it. It has to be moved by the Department of Information and Public Relations, as all issues related to journalists are handled by them. The Home Ministry will direct the police to implement whatever decision is taken in this regard.
