Pregnant women on high H1N1 alert

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) will counsel pregnant women and children at its anti-natal clinics in the city.

Since August, the H1N1 virus has claimed 29 deaths in Mumbai. Of the 26 deaths, 15 victims were women of which five were pregnant.

The fact that women constitute 73 percent of swine flu deaths in the city clearly puts pregnant women and foetus in the high-risk category. The counseling, to start from October 5, will be held at 40 ANC clinics in the city.

The BMC also plans to rope in 3,000 Anganwadi workers for a counselling campaign. Meanwhile, the state swine flu death toll has hit 135.
