A private bus crushed the 17-year-old victim, who was listening to music while crossing the road at Dadar TT circle; bus driver has been arrested for causing death due to negligence

For 17-year-old Nidhi Pandey, listening to music on her earphones turned fatal after she was was run over by a private bus at Dadar TT circle. She was crossing the road while her earphones were plugged in.

Eyewitnesses say the incident occurred at 10 am near Dadar TT circle when the teenager, a resident of Dosti Daffodil in Antop Hill area of Wadala (East), was crossing the road on the southbound stretch of Dr BR Ambedkar Road. Nidhi was returning home from the gym where she would go for a workout.

Nidhi, who had just cleared her HSC exams from RA Podar College, was hit by a private bus on its way into the city from Ahmednagar. A theatre group had hired the bus. According to eyewitnesses present at the spot, motorists informed the police about the accident but none of them bothered to rush Nidhi to the hospital.

It was only after the Matunga police arrived that she was taken to Sion Hospital. However, she was declared ‘brought dead’. “Nidhi was declared dead on arrival as she had succumbed to her grievous head and face injuries,” said a doctor on duty at the hospital.

Meanwhile, officials from the Matunga police arrested Harishchandra Argade, the driver of the bus, for causing death due to negligence. “We will produce him in court on Tuesday,” said Sub-Inspector Manisha Murumkar, Matunga police station.
