The child had gone to the accused Mohammad Hussain Mumtaz Ali Shaikh’s house to play with his daughter. Senior Police Inspector Suhas Garud from Wadala Truck Terminal police station said, “When the two girls were playing inside his house, Shaikh started playing the video and asked the child to come and watch. During interrogations later, he revealed that he was using the video to try and lure her into sex. The little child, however, pushed him and ran out of
the house.”
The incident took place on the evening of March 3, and an FIR was registered on March 6. Garud added, “Later, the victim’s mother confronted the accused. She also approached a social activist. When the activist went up to him, the accused told him not to interfere in the matter.”
The child’s family lodged an FIR against Shaikh, who was then arrested from his residence. The accused works as a daily-wage labourer.
“When I personally interrogated him, he admitted that he had shown these videos to his minor daughter as well, after which we approached his wife. The woman said that her daughter had never come to her to complain about her father. So if the girl confirms it in future, we would add her name to the same FIR,” added Garud.
The cops revealed that the accused had collected these videos four months ago. The supplier of the videos has moved and police officials are still trying to locate him.
The accused has been booked under section 509 (word, gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman) of the Indian Penal Code, along with section 12 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act. He has been remanded in police custody till March 15.
