A 12-year-old student of a Mokhada-based government hostel was found hanging inside a tempo on Wednesday evening. According to the police, prima-facie it appears to be a case of suicide.

The deceased has been identified as Govardhan Mahadu Raut. He was a Std IV student of Maharishi Vithal Ramji Shinde Asharam Prathamik Uchya Madhamik Ashram. Police said that the body was found a kilometer away from the ashram near Mokhada area. Preliminary inquiry revealed that the ashram authorities had caught him stealing Rs 30. He was asked to behave properly and was also given a strict warning. A police officer said that since then he was a little depressed and probably because of that he ended his life.

Raut's parents, who live in a nearby village, are farmers by profession. During investigation it was found that the child was missing since morning. Later, in the evening, passersby spotted his body and informed the police. After reaching the spot, the cops sent the body to Mokhada civil hospital for post-mortem. "An accidental death report has been registered in the matter. Further investigation is on," said a police officer.
