With the Southwest monsoons advancing, the rains may arrive in the city by the end of the week
Mumbai residents may finally get relief from the scorching heat with cloudy skies predicted for the next two days, and the city may witness monsoons by this weekend, or the beginning of next week. Despite an overcast weather on Monday, there was no fall in temperature; however, the cool breeze did bring some respite from the heat.

An official from the Meteorological Department said, “The temperature recorded on Monday was about 2.1 degrees higher than the expected average temperature, based on the recordings on the same day for the last 30 years.”
Nevertheless, residents of the city have observed a change in weather. Ankeeta Vetal, who works in Khar, said, “Usually, it is too hot to leave office at lunch time, but yesterday the weather was pleasant and we decided to eat out.”
Similar sentiments were shared by Malad resident Disha Naik, who works in an NGO. “I hope the weather remains the same till monsoons arrive. The sunny days have taken a toll on everyone, especially people like me who have a field job.”
Speaking to mid-day, V K Rajeev, director, Indian Meteorological Department said, “We will know the status of monsoons arriving in the city in the next two days. While the low pressure belts are present, we will have to study the wind direction to know more.”
