Meanwhile, parents are receiving messages from admission touts ensuring guaranteed admissions in private colleges. One of the parents, Devi Kapadia, said, “The situation is very confusing right now. Already, there has been much waiting in this year’s medical admission process; confusion continues to haunt us. Now, results are declared but we have no clue how they will conduct admissions on 15% All India quota as well as statewide admissions.”
Another parent, who did not wish to be quoted, added, “These people are taking advantage of the confusion over medical admissions this year. The more the authorities delay the admission process, pressure will only grown.
Keyur Cholera, a faculty member from the Mindsetters, a coaching institute, said, “Even as the result is declared now, there is no clarity on the admission process. NEET mandate is new and has been implemented suddenly. Whether the state government will conduct the centralised process or if it will be done at an individual college level needs to be cleared.”
Pravin Shingare, Director of the Directorate of Medical Education and Research (DMER) added, “The state will conduct its own centralised admission process. The schedule for this process will be declared in a couple of days. Candidates willing to apply for admission in colleges in Maharsahtra state will have to register in this process. A state merit list will then be declared.”
The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), which conducted the NEET test, has declared the combined result of phase I and II. Het Shah has topped the merit list with score of 685 closely followed by Ekansh Goyal with 682.
