Making sense of the good, bad and often strange trending topics online

The shooting of RTI activist Shehla Masood outside her home in Bhopal led to the outpouring of much anger online.

Neeraj Bhushan asked: 'This is the story of RTI. Do you still want a Lokpal Bill? Who will dare complain? You?' Vivek Singh tweeted: 'Activists being killed in broad daylight.

I am sure this is not the country people dreamed of 64 years ago.' A certain Krish added: 'Shehla Masood, R.I.P. I have a sneaky feeling this nation might fail you, like it did many others before you.

Sincerely hope I'm proven wrong.' And Kiran Kumar S made this connection: 'J Dey died after exposing underworld criminals. Masood died after exposing politicians. So politicians = Underworld?'

Scoring brownie points
Arun Jaitley's speech in the Rajya Sabha won him a lot of fans, as excerpts from his message to the Prime Minister - 'You don't need a magic wand to fight corruption, you need political will' - made the rounds.

Devendra Pai pointed out: 'Difference between leaders and managers: Arun Jaitley and Brinda Karat speaking from their hearts, while Manmohan Singh read a statement.'

In Priyanka Chaturvedi's words: 'Jaitley attacks the government. Sushma attacks personalities. Difference. Respect for Jaitley.'

And there was this, from Arpana Rawat: 'Jaitley making some sense on a day when most are still clueless in the big political family.'

Nothing but the truth

'Lies I've told my parents' was, for some reason, a trending topic for much of the day. Some of the revelations made included 'everybody failed that test', 'we didn't get any homework today', 'I don't have a boyfriend', 'they have increased our tuition fees' and 'we're allowed to have our iPods at school.'

The last word

Shobhaa De puts things into perspective: 'National Referendum not Jail Bharo is the need of the hour. Courting arrest is fast acquiring 'cool factor' status. More fashionable than Fashion Week!'
