Nawazuddin Siddiqui has found himself mired in controversy after his sister-in-law, Aafreen, filed a domestic abuse case against him and his family. In a complaint filed on Saturday at a police station in his hometown, Budhana, in Muzzaffarnagar district of Uttar Pradesh, she has accused the actor of kicking her in the stomach. The family has also been accused of torturing her for dowry.

The police have registered a case of abuse and dowry harassment against the whole family. In her statement, Aafreen, who is Nawazuddin's brother, Minazuddin's wife, has alleged that she was being harassed ever since she got married in May this year.

Aafreen has further alleged that she is pregnant and Minazuddin's family told her to get an abortion. She has also claimed that Nawazuddin threatened her, flaunting his proximity to Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav. She has alleged that on September 28, Nawazuddin and his family switched off the CCTV cameras at their home, and abused her. They also told her to leave the house. On Saturday evening, reacting to her charges, Nawazuddin said on Twitter, "Everything was recorded through CCTV Cameras... The police is Investigating. Be cool."
