National flower can't be party symbol: PIL

A PIL seeking a direction to the Election Commission of India to scrap ‘Lotus’ symbol allotted to BJP was filed in the Bombay High Court yesterday, contending that the national flower cannot be used as a party icon.

The petition filed by activist Hemant Patil is likely to be heard next week. No party or person had ever objected to the symbol assigned to the party 25 years ago, though it is violative of Emblems and Names Act, said the petition.
