Supermodel Naomi Campbell is coming to Mumbai and she is all set to scorch the ramp at the Lakme Fashion Week on March 28. The sexy model will be the showstopper for Mai Mumbai, a benefit show that will raise funds for victims of the 26/11 attacks.
Initiated under Fashion for Relief, a charity fashion show and auction created in 2005 by Campbell, this will be a 'by invitation only' event. Vikram Chatwal Hotels is presenting the initiative. And if you are wondering about their association, Campbell and Chatwal have been friends for the last 15 years and are now neighbours at the Meat Packing District in Downtown Manhattan.
Mai Mumbai also plans to get Indian and international fashion designers together on one runway. And those wearing the creations will be Bollywood stars, sports personalities and prominent business faces. The collection will be a mix of gowns and T-shirts, which will all be auctioned, the proceeds for which will go for the 26/11 victims.
Chatwal is also opening his first hotel in Cochin eight days later, on April 5. Campbell will accompany him for the launch.
Campbell also raised funds for victims of New Orleans' Hurricane Katrina by doing a show at New York's Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week. In 2008, she helped raise funds for the White Ribbon Alliance for saving lives of pregnant women and newborn babies around the world by putting up a show at the London Fashion Week. She also works closely with the Nelson Mandela Children's Fund.
